Dehradun Gunfight Vehicle Had Multiple Pending Traffic Violations
The Delhi-registered Toyota Fortuner, utilized by Gen-Z nightclub staff during the fatal gunfight that resulted in the death of retired Brigadier Mukesh Kumar Joshi, has been discovered to possess at least eleven outstanding traffic challans. These violations span across four states: Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. This revelation emerges as law enforcement agencies escalate their efforts to locate the four fugitive occupants of the rival group's black Scorpio-N SUV.
Intensive Manhunt for Scorpio Occupants Underway
Investigators strongly suspect that one of the individuals inside the Scorpio-N fired the shot that lethally struck the 74-year-old retired officer. The four accused currently evading capture have been identified as Shantanu Tyagi from Saharanpur, Kavish Tyagi from Muzaffarpur, Sameer Chaudhary from Haridwar, and Vaibhav, whose complete details are still being collected by authorities.
"Multiple specialized teams are operating continuously to apprehend the four accused who were present in the brand new black Scorpio-N SUV. Separate squads have also been dispatched to their native districts to aid in the search," stated SP (City) Pramod Kumar in an official communication.
According to police officers, Shantanu Tyagi is alleged to have discharged the firearm that fatally injured the retired brigadier during the exchange of gunfire. The black Scorpio-N, which police reports indicate belongs to Kavish Tyagi, has already been recovered from a wooded area near Doiwala after being abandoned by the accused.
Comprehensive Investigation Techniques Deployed
Officials confirmed that technical surveillance, meticulous analysis of CCTV footage, and local intelligence inputs are being extensively utilized to trace the suspects. Additionally, security checkpoints have been reinforced on all major routes exiting Dehradun to prevent any potential escape attempts by the accused.
Simultaneously, investigators are scrutinizing the involvement of the Toyota Fortuner used by the nightclub staff. Most of its eleven pending challans are specifically for speeding offenses, as per information accessed from official records. The SUV is formally registered under the name of Amit Leela, a resident of Sector 24, Rohini, New Delhi.
Nightclub Owner Arrested and Vehicle Seized
Police authorities disclosed that the Fortuner was being operated by Delhi-based Sandeep Kumar, the owner of Gen-Z nightclub, who has since been arrested in the case for allegedly supplying weapons. The vehicle has been officially seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
"We intend to issue a formal notice to the legal owner of the SUV and thoroughly investigate his potential role in this incident. Preliminary information indicates that the Fortuner was under the use of club owner Sandeep Kumar," elaborated SP Pramod Kumar.
Origins of the Confrontation Revealed
The case, initially perceived as a road rage incident, was later determined to have originated from a dispute inside the Gen-Z nightclub on Sunday night. Police reports indicate that a group of young patrons became embroiled in an argument with bar staff over a billing issue. The confrontation intensified after the rear glass of their Scorpio vehicle was allegedly damaged.
Although the matter seemed to have temporarily subsided, the group reportedly departed the scene after issuing threats. The following morning, the two opposing factions encountered each other again near Kuthal Gate. Police stated that the nightclub staff were traveling in the Fortuner when they were spotted by the Scorpio occupants, who subsequently chased them towards Johri village on the Mussoorie road.
Gunshots were fired at the Fortuner's tires, prompting retaliation and culminating in a full-scale gunfight on a public roadway.
Arrests and Recoveries Made So Far
To date, police have arrested four accused individuals: bar employees Mohammad Akhlaq and Rohit Kumar, nightclub owner Sandeep Kumar, and Aditya Chaudhary, another occupant of the Fortuner. Law enforcement officials have also recovered two country-made pistols and four cartridges from Akhlaq and Rohit. A formal case has been registered under murder provisions and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
