Four Arrested for Extortion at Pune Real Estate Firm

Pune: Four men were arrested by the Hinjewadi police on Tuesday for allegedly barging into a real estate firm's office, threatening employees, and demanding Rs 1 lakh in extortion money.

Incident Details

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon at the firm's office in Hinjewadi when employees and customers were present. The complainant, a legal and sales executive with the company, told police that the accused arrived in an SUV and created chaos inside the premises.

Police Statement

An officer from Hinjewadi police said, "The group allegedly abused staff members and forcibly entered the cabin of one of the firm's partners, who was not present at the time. One of the accused reportedly confronted the complainant over not being awarded a contract for supplying construction material and claimed he had suffered financial losses because of it."

The accused then allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh and threatened to kill the complainant and others, claiming weapons were kept inside the vehicle, police said.

Legal Action

After the men left, the complainant informed the company's partners and approached the police. The four accused were arrested under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections related to extortion and house trespass after preparation for assault or hurt, police added.
