Coimbatore: Four men were arrested on Saturday for organizing and participating in an illegal armed rooster fight on vacant land near Maniyakarampalayam in Coimbatore. The arrested individuals have been identified as D Praveen, 33, of Chinnavedampatti; B Dhanasekaran, 46, of PN Palayam; A Ayyakannu, 65, of Peelamedu; and S Azharuddin, 36, of Avarampalayam.
Tip-Off Leads to Apprehension
They were apprehended following a tip-off regarding illegal gambling and animal cruelty. A police team caught them red-handed while they were conducting the armed bird fight. Police also seized two roosters trained for the fight, two sharp knives tied to the birds' legs, and Rs 14,500 in cash allegedly used for betting.
Legal Action Taken
Saravanampatti police have booked all four accused under Section 12 of the Tamil Nadu Gambling (TNG) Act, which penalizes gaming in public places. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
Warning from Authorities
Meanwhile, police officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal betting operations and animal fights. The public is urged to report any such activities to the authorities.
