New Delhi: Four individuals, including a BCA student and two minors, have been apprehended for the murder of a 60-year-old security guard in west Delhi's Peeragarhi area. The victim, identified as Bijender, was brutally attacked with a stick and then run over twice by an SUV, driven by the accused. The crime was reportedly motivated by a personal grudge that dated back over a month.
Details of the Arrest
The arrested accused have been identified as Vinay (22), a BCA student from Bahadurgarh, and Ayush Chauhan (18) from Najafgarh. The two minors have also been taken into custody. Police confirmed that the incident was initially reported as an accident, but CCTV footage revealed the true nature of the crime. The footage showed one of the accused stepping out of a black Mahindra Bolero Neo, armed with a stick, and assaulting the guard. Subsequently, the SUV was driven towards him, and he was run over a second time while attempting to escape.
Investigation and Breakthrough
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikram Singh stated that a police team scanned footage from over 200 CCTV cameras along the route taken by the four accused after the murder. Informers were activated, and technical surveillance was employed to track their movements. A breakthrough occurred on May 25 when officers received information that the four were attempting to flee to Haridwar through the Mundka industrial area in the same SUV used in the crime. A trap was laid, and the vehicle was intercepted near the industrial area, leading to the arrest of the two adult accused. The juveniles were also apprehended.
Motive and Confession
During interrogation, the group disclosed that about a month ago, one of the juveniles had a confrontation with Bijender, during which the guard allegedly abused him. The juvenile later conspired with his friends to kill the guard. Police said the accused first threatened Bijender before attacking him with a stick and then mowing him down with the SUV. The car and the stick have been seized by the police.
Additional Findings
Investigators added that the accused had removed the registration plate of the vehicle after the murder to avoid identification through CCTV footage and police teams. A subsequent verification revealed that the SUV bore a Delhi registered number plate and was registered in the name of the aunt of one of the juveniles. Police are also verifying whether Vinay and one of the juveniles were involved in a similar incident in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, after some information emerged during interrogation, leading to a scrutiny of their social media accounts.
