Bhubaneswar Police Nab Four in Dramatic Kidnapping and Ransom Case
In a significant breakthrough, the Kharavel Nagar police in Bhubaneswar have arrested four individuals in connection with the alleged abduction of a local businessman and a ransom demand of Rs 15 lakh. The incident, which unfolded over the weekend, has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers of unresolved financial disputes.
Abduction Details and Police Response
The victim, identified as Asish Minj (30), was reportedly walking with his friend Amarjit Dungdung (31) near Master Canteen Chowk around 7:30 am on Saturday. According to police sources, an unknown vehicle suddenly stopped, and several men forcibly dragged Minj inside before speeding away. Dungdung, who witnessed the abduction, later informed authorities that he received a ransom call demanding Rs 15 lakh for Minj's safe release, prompting him to file an official complaint.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, law enforcement officials launched a comprehensive investigation. Police tracked the phone number used for the ransom call and meticulously examined CCTV footage from the area. This coordinated effort led them to trace the vehicle to Jatni, located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, where the rescue operation was executed.
Arrests and Ongoing Manhunt
During the operation, police successfully rescued Minj and apprehended four suspects: Asish Kumar Nayak (21), Chinmay Kumar Behera (28), Pranab Kumar Behera (23), and Dipak Kumar Sahoo (22). All four are residents of Bhubaneswar and have been charged with kidnapping and extortion. A senior police officer confirmed the arrests but noted that the alleged mastermind behind the plot remains at large. Authorities have intensified their search efforts, vowing to bring the absconding individual to justice soon.
Root Cause: Financial Dispute Over Unpaid Loan
Investigators revealed that the kidnapping was not a random act but stemmed from a deep-seated financial conflict. The mastermind had allegedly lent Minj approximately Rs 12 lakh a year ago for investment purposes on a trading platform. When the lender sought repayment, Minj reportedly delayed and avoided communication, leading to mounting frustration.
Instead of pursuing legal avenues or filing a formal complaint, the lender resorted to extreme measures, orchestrating the abduction to recover the owed money. The police officer emphasized that this illegal approach has compounded the situation, turning a civil dispute into a criminal case with severe consequences for all involved parties.
The case underscores the importance of resolving financial disagreements through proper channels and legal frameworks. As the investigation continues, Bhubaneswar police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities and cooperate with authorities to maintain law and order in the city.
