Four Cow Smugglers Arrested After Encounter in Kanpur

The Kanpur police arrested four individuals involved in cow smuggling, including two brothers, following an encounter late Sunday night. The incident took place in the Juhi police station area.

Encounter Details

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary, the Crime Branch and ADCP operation received intelligence that some individuals were purchasing bovines at low prices from the Rawatpur area and taking them near the Parampurwa railway track for slaughter. Acting on this information, three police teams were deployed to search for the suspects.

At around 12:30 am on Sunday night, the police team spotted four people with a bovine near the railway track. When police attempted to stop them, the accused fled. Police chased and apprehended Amir from Chamanganj and Shyamji Tiwari from Raipurwa. Meanwhile, the real brothers Chand Alam and Rehan alias Saddam, residents of Parampurwa, escaped from the scene.

Arrest and Recovery

During the search for the absconding accused, police found both brothers hiding in bushes alongside the railway track. According to police, to avoid arrest, both opened fire. In retaliatory action, Chand Alam and Rehan were shot in the right leg. They have been admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital for treatment.

Police recovered one bovine, a country-made pistol, a chopper, a plastic sack, and other items from the accused. The arrested individuals have previous criminal records related to cow smuggling and have been jailed before. Their criminal records are being investigated, and police are searching for other gang members.

The DCP South stated that the arrested accused have a history of involvement in cow smuggling cases. Authorities are probing their connections and looking for additional suspects. The police operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat illegal cattle smuggling in the region.
