Four Dead in Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway Bus Crash
A tragic accident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has claimed four lives and left three others injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, involving a private bus that crashed into roadside railings.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The accident took place near Puttappanadoddi in Sankalagere village, close to Channapatna in Bengaluru South district. According to police reports, the bus was en route from Calicut in Kerala to Bengaluru when the driver allegedly lost control at around 4:30 AM.
The vehicle collided with iron railings on the left side of the road, scraping along for nearly 100 meters before coming to a halt. These railings are installed to separate the main carriageway from the service road, highlighting the severity of the impact.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
Among the deceased are Mohammed Faran (22) and Sulfi (45) from Kozhikode, Kerala, along with Rashid (45) from Kalasipalya, Bengaluru, and Sakir (27) from Bengaluru. The bus was carrying a total of 36 passengers at the time of the crash.
Three injured individuals were promptly admitted to a hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have confirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to assist the victims and their families.
Investigation and Legal Actions
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the driver fell asleep, leading to the accident. Although the driver claimed he was trying to avoid an incoming vehicle, CCTV footage analysis indicates negligence on his part.
A case has been registered under section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The bus driver has been arrested and is currently in custody for further questioning.
Broader Implications for Road Safety
This incident underscores critical concerns regarding driver fatigue and safety protocols on expressways. With the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway being a major route, such accidents call for enhanced vigilance and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
Authorities are urging drivers to prioritize rest and adhere to speed limits to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The community mourns the loss of lives and hopes for a swift recovery for the injured.
