Four Killed in Early Morning Bus Crash on Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway
A tragic accident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has resulted in the deaths of four individuals after a private bus lost control and collided with a roadside railing. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday near Puttappanadoddi village in Channapatna taluk, raising concerns about road safety on this busy route.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The bus, operated by PK Travels, was en route from Kozhikode in Kerala to Bengaluru when it met with the accident around 4:10 am. Preliminary reports from authorities indicate that driver drowsiness is suspected to be the primary cause. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a railing designed to separate the main carriageway from the service road.
After impact, the bus continued scraping along the railing for approximately 100 metres before finally coming to a halt. This prolonged collision exacerbated the damage and contributed to the severity of injuries sustained by passengers.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
The deceased have been identified as:
- Rashid, 45, from Kalasipalya in Bengaluru
- Sakir, 27, from Anepalya
- Mohammed Faran, 22, from Kozhikode, Kerala
- Sulfi, 45, from Kozhikode, Kerala
In addition to the fatalities, two other passengers—Abdul and Alain from Kannur in Kerala—sustained injuries and were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The driver, identified as Riyaz, suffered minor injuries and is currently in police custody after receiving initial care.

Channapatna traffic police responded swiftly to the scene, conducting a thorough inspection and utilizing a crane to clear the damaged bus from the roadway. An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. A senior police officer emphasized that the railing involved was part of safety infrastructure intended to prevent such incidents, highlighting the need for driver vigilance.
The bus was scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru by 5:10 am, with over 40 people on board, including the driver and support staff. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Channapatna government hospital for post-mortem examinations as part of standard procedural protocols.
