Four Overground Workers Apprehended in Srinagar for Alleged Terrorist Assistance

In a significant development in Jammu and Kashmir, law enforcement officials have arrested four overground workers (OGWs), including a female suspect, in the summer capital of Srinagar. The individuals are accused of providing crucial logistic support to terrorist elements operating in the region, according to official statements released on Thursday.

Details of the Arrest and Seizure

The arrests were carried out by police personnel during a late-night operation on Wednesday in the Hazratbal area of Srinagar. The apprehended individuals have been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, and Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, all residents of Hazratbal. The woman taken into custody is Shazia Mohammad, also a local resident of the same area.

During the operation, authorities recovered a substantial cache of items from the possession of the suspects. The seized materials include a hand grenade, 15 rounds of ammunition for an AK-47 rifle, four mobile phones, and an undisclosed amount of cash. Legal Actions and Implications

A formal case has been registered against the four individuals under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act. These charges underscore the serious nature of the allegations, which involve supporting terrorist networks through logistical means. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle support structures for terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident sheds light on the persistent challenges faced by authorities in countering terrorism in the region, with overground workers often playing a critical role in aiding militant groups.
