Two fugitive theft suspects have been charged with burning down a local plastics factory after the owner refused to withdraw a criminal complaint against them, according to the Sahnewal police in Ludhiana.
Charges Filed Under BNS Section 326(G)
The police have charged Jagga and Rang Bahadar under Section 326(G) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to mischief by fire or explosive substance. The factory owner, Abhishek Garg, reported that the suspects had been threatening him since May 18, when he filed an initial first-information report (FIR) accusing them of stealing from his facility in Jugiana.
Escalation of Intimidation
Garg stated that the intimidation escalated on the afternoon of May 22, when a massive fire tore through the complex, completely gutting the facility. The suspects, who reside near the factory, remain at large and are currently fugitives from justice.
Investigation Ongoing
Assistant sub-inspector Karnail Singh, the investigating officer in this case, confirmed that the police have registered an arson case based on the factory owner’s statement. However, he noted that further investigation is required to conclusively link the fugitives to the fire scene. The authorities are actively pursuing leads to establish a direct connection between the suspects and the arson.
This incident highlights the severe consequences that can arise when criminal complaints are met with retaliation. The police are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of Jagga and Rang Bahadar to come forward immediately.
