In a dramatic early morning operation, police in Varanasi shot two gangrape accused in the leg and arrested them following an encounter. The incident occurred near Savas turning under the Sadat police station of Ghazipur district early on Sunday.

Police Patrol Leads to Tip-Off

Circle Officer Ramkrishna Tiwari of Sadat explained the sequence of events. A police team was conducting a routine night patrol when they received crucial information. The tip-off indicated that two individuals wanted in a recent gang-rape case were present near the Sadat railway station.

Encounter Unfolds at Savas Turning

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the police team moved to block the Savas turning. They began checking vehicles in the early hours to intercept the suspects. As the two accused attempted to pass through the area, police officers surrounded them.

The situation escalated quickly. The accused tried to escape and opened fire at the police team. In response, the police retaliated. They shot both individuals in the leg, effectively neutralizing the threat without causing fatal injuries.

Recovery of Weapons and Confession

Following the encounter, police conducted a search. They recovered two country-made firearms and several cartridges from the possession of the accused. The weapons were seized as evidence.

The arrested individuals were identified as Rahul Bhardwaj and Arun Yadav. During subsequent interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the gangrape of a woman. This admission provided critical confirmation of their crimes.
