Gangster Aman Bhainswal arrested at IGI, deported from US

The Haryana Police's Special Task Force (STF) scored a major success on Wednesday with the arrest of notorious gangster Aman Bhainswal at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. Bhainswal was taken into custody immediately upon his arrival, following his deportation from the United States of America.

The Criminal Network and Past Crimes

A resident of Bhainswal Kalan in Sonipat, Aman Bhainswal is a feared figure with a long criminal record. Police records show he is implicated in more than 10 criminal cases, including serious charges like murder, extortion, and violations of the Arms Act. His criminal activities were not isolated; he operated his own gang and maintained strong operational links with the Rohit Godara and Himanshu Bhau gangs.

Investigators revealed that Bhainswal provided crucial logistics and manpower to the Rohit Godara gang for carrying out operations within India. His influence and network spread across several districts, including Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, and the Delhi-NCR region. His connection to the Godara gang was facilitated through another gangster, Ankit Narwal.

The International Escape and Capture

Before fleeing the country, at least six criminal cases, including two murders, were already registered against Bhainswal. On June 20, 2024, he managed to escape India using a fraudulently obtained passport. STF chief B Satheesh Balan detailed that Bhainswal secured the fake document from Delhi by forging his residential address and even his father's name.

His escape route took him first to Dubai, from where he eventually travelled to the United States. His run from the law ended about three months ago when he was detained by US authorities. After being informed of his detention, the Haryana STF initiated the formal process for his deportation. Indian agencies had already issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) and an Interpol Red Corner Notice (RCN) against him. He was officially declared a proclaimed offender on March 18, 2025, in connection with a 2016 FIR at Baroda police station in Sonipat.

Wider Crackdown on Fugitive Gangsters

The arrest of Aman Bhainswal is part of a sustained and coordinated international effort by Haryana police. In the past three years alone, the STF has secured the deportation and arrest of 12 most-wanted criminals from seven countries, including the US, UAE, Thailand, Philippines, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Cambodia. With another arrest made by a district unit, the total reaches 13.

These deported criminals were collectively wanted in a staggering 397 criminal cases, spanning murder, attempt to murder, and extortion. Courts have already disposed of 109 of these cases. Highlighting the success of this crackdown, STF chief Balan noted that extortion calls in Haryana have declined by approximately 35% in the last year.

Currently, several other fugitives remain detained abroad. Balan named Bhanu Rana and Noni Rana in the US, Venkat Garg in Georgia, and Lovepreet in Armenia as key targets. These operations have been possible due to seamless coordination between Indian authorities, Interpol, US enforcement agencies, and state police units.

In 2025, the STF's efforts have led to the arrest of 810 individuals, which includes 119 most-wanted criminals, 470 gang members, and 221 others involved in serious offences. The force has also been involved in 20 police encounters this year, resulting in four criminals killed and 26 injured and arrested.

Haryana's Director General of Police, Ajay Singhal, reaffirmed the state police's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards organised crime, extortion, illegal arms, and violent offences. Aman Bhainswal will now be produced before the concerned courts to face trial for his alleged crimes. A separate case under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections and the Passport Act has been registered at Sadar Gohana police station for the passport fraud.
