In a brazen act of criminal intimidation, aides of a jailed gangster opened fire at a marble trader's shop in Tarn Taran district, Punjab, late Wednesday evening. The incident occurred in the Jhabal area, where unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and fired several rounds into the air and at the shop, causing panic among locals.
Extortion Demand Preceded Attack
According to police sources, the marble trader had been receiving extortion calls from a gang operating from behind bars. The caller, identified as a known gangster currently lodged in a Punjab jail, had demanded a hefty sum of money. When the trader refused to comply, the gang dispatched its men to deliver a warning.
The attackers, wearing helmets to conceal their identities, fired at least four shots before fleeing the scene. No one was injured in the firing, as the shop was closing for the day and the trader had already left.
Police Investigation Underway
Senior police officials, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Tarn Taran, reached the spot and launched an investigation. Forensic teams collected evidence, including bullet shells, from the crime scene. CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being examined to identify the suspects.
