The Garhwa district administration in Jharkhand is on high alert, preparing for a massive influx of revellers at popular tourist and picnic destinations on New Year's Day. With heavy footfall expected, especially at the scenic Sukhaldari waterfall and the Anraj Dam, authorities are leaving nothing to chance in their security preparations.
Elaborate Security Blueprint for Tourist Safety
Garhwa Superintendent of Police (SP) Aman Kumar has outlined a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety of thousands of celebrants. Elaborate arrangements will be made at all tourist centres and picnic spots for people coming from across the district and beyond. The police strategy includes regular patrolling by Police Control Room (PCR) vans and dedicated bike squads on all roads leading to these key locations.
Furthermore, a Quick Response Team (QRT) will be placed on standby to tackle any emergencies swiftly. This multi-layered security approach aims to provide a safe environment for families and friends ushering in the new year amidst nature.
Sukhaldari Waterfall: The Prime Attraction
Sukhaldari waterfall, located 60 km from the Garhwa district headquarters, remains the first choice for tourists and picnickers. Its breathtaking setting, surrounded by high hills and dense forests, draws massive crowds every year. Authorities anticipate thousands to gather here on January 1st, making it a focal point of the security deployment.
Anraj Dam: Boating Allowed, Swimming Banned
The second most favoured spot is the Anraj Dam, situated 12 km from the district headquarters, famous for its boating and steamer services. However, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sanjay Kumar has imposed strict restrictions to prevent accidents. A ban on swimming, diving, and bathing in the dam is firmly in place, though boating and steamer services have been exempted from this prohibition.
The SDM has also issued a clear warning: no tourists or picnickers will be allowed to stay at any public spot after 5 PM. This rule applies to a list of locations beyond the main attractions, including:
- Panghatwa Dam
- Khajuri Dam
- Uria Nadi and Koel Nadi
- Banda Pahad
- Son Nadi and Tahley Nadi
- Chatania Dam
- Satbahini Mandir Waterfall
Action will be taken against anyone found violating this deadline, ensuring that celebrations conclude safely before dusk. The administration's proactive measures highlight their commitment to preventing untoward incidents during the New Year festivities.
