Gas Cylinder Explosion Rocks Bhilwara Neighborhood, Causes Extensive Structural Damage
A powerful cooking gas cylinder explosion occurred late Sunday night in a locked residential house located in Bhilwara's Patri Paar area, under the jurisdiction of the Gandhinagar police station. The blast resulted in severe damage to the building, including collapsed walls and significant structural compromise, with shockwaves causing visible cracks in nearly half a dozen neighboring houses.
Panic and Confusion Follow Loud Blast in Santosh Colony
The explosion took place in Santosh Colony, situated near the Bhilwara Police Line, triggering widespread panic among local residents. Initially, many mistook the loud sound for firecrackers being set off following the India-New Zealand cricket final match. However, the situation quickly escalated as people felt strong tremors and observed cracks forming in surrounding homes, prompting them to rush out into the streets for safety.
Eyewitness Bhagwati Lal Sen recounted the terrifying moments, stating, "We suddenly smelled gas. Before we knew it, an explosion occurred in the house next to ours. Hearing the loud blast and feeling the tremors, all the neighborhood residents came out of their homes onto the streets. The house owner was informed later."
No Casualties Reported as Family Was Away at Wedding
Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident. The house owner, Satyanarayan Purohit, along with his entire family, had traveled to Soniyana in Chittorgarh to attend a wedding ceremony, leaving the property vacant at the time of the explosion. This absence likely prevented what could have been a tragic loss of life.
Police Response and Investigation Underway
Police personnel from the Gandhi Nagar police station promptly arrived at the scene after receiving information about the blast. A preliminary investigation conducted by the authorities suggests that the explosion was caused by a leak in the cooking gas cylinder. To ensure a thorough examination, the Mobile Investigation Unit and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams were called in to conduct a modern and scientific investigation. Evidence was meticulously collected from the scene to determine the exact cause and circumstances.
Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh provided an official statement, saying, "Late Sunday night, a gas cylinder exploded in a closed house in the Gandhinagar police station area. The house owner had gone out to attend a social function. The walls and household belongings have been damaged, but there has been no loss of life. Once the house owner returns home and files a report with the police, legal action will be taken accordingly."
Structural Impact and Community Concerns
The explosion not only devastated the targeted house but also raised serious concerns about the structural integrity of nearby residences. The force of the blast was sufficient to cause cracks in multiple adjacent buildings, highlighting the potential dangers associated with gas cylinder leaks. Residents have expressed relief that no one was harmed but remain anxious about the safety of their own homes.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and proper handling of gas cylinders to prevent such hazardous occurrences. Authorities continue to investigate the matter, with further actions pending based on the house owner's formal report.
