In a grim discovery, Ghaziabad police have arrested a man for the alleged murder of his friend, whose skeletal remains were found dumped behind a closed factory in Modinagar. The accused has confessed to the crime, which stemmed from a dispute over money.
Arrest and Confession in Modinagar Murder Case
The accused, identified as 37-year-old Rohit Kumar from Modinagar, was taken into custody on Monday. During police interrogation, he reportedly confessed to killing his friend, Anil Kumar, a labourer who had been missing since November 12. The motive behind the brutal act was a quarrel over a financial dispute between the two.
Discovery of Skeletal Remains
Acting on the information provided by Rohit Kumar, a police team searched the premises of the closed Modipon factory in Modinagar. They recovered skeletal remains, including a skull, ribs, and other bones, from the bushes behind the factory. The clothes found at the spot were crucial in helping the family of the deceased identify the victim as Anil Kumar.
Anil, a resident of Gadana village, had left his home on November 12, telling his family he was heading to work. When he did not return, his brother filed a missing person report the very next day at the Modinagar police station.
Police Investigation and Forensic Process
The breakthrough in the case came when police, using surveillance inputs, traced Anil's mobile phone location to Rohit Kumar's residence. This led to Rohit's detention and subsequent confession.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Modinagar, Amit Saxena, stated that during questioning, Rohit admitted to killing Anil with a stick. The fatal assault occurred after the two got into a quarrel while consuming alcohol. Police suspect that after the body was dumped, stray animals may have scattered the remains.
A forensic team conducted a thorough inspection of the spot and collected vital evidence. The recovered remains have been sent for an autopsy, and DNA testing will be conducted to conclusively confirm the identity. ACP Saxena confirmed that further investigation into the case is actively underway.
Anil Kumar is survived by his wife, Kavita, and their three children. The arrest has brought a tragic closure to a missing person's case that had left the family in anguish for weeks.
