A tragic sequence of events unfolded in Ghaziabad on Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of a 48-year-old man and, hours later, his elderly mother who succumbed to shock. The police have launched a manhunt for the driver of an unknown vehicle who fled the scene after the fatal accident.
The Fatal Night and Police Investigation
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Sunday near the New Railway Station in Ghaziabad. The victim, identified as Daulatram alias Rinku (44), a local businessman and resident of Delhi's Nagloi, was leaving a wedding ceremony at the Lions Club in the Kavinagar area. He was accompanied by his uncle, Bijendra Kansal.
According to a senior police officer, both had attended a relative's marriage and had sent their families home earlier. As they were walking from the venue to find transport, an unknown car hit them. Daulatram suffered serious injuries, while Bijendra received minor injuries.
Locals informed the police, who rushed the injured to a nearby private hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared Daulatram dead. Bijendra was discharged after receiving minor treatment.
ACP Suryabali Maurya stated that while the family members have not yet lodged a formal complaint, the police are actively investigating. "We have formed two teams to investigate the case and are checking the CCTV cameras of nearby areas to trace the car," the ACP said.
A Mother's Tragic Demise
The tragedy deepened with a second, heartbreaking death. Upon receiving the news, Daulatram's younger brother, Mukesh Kansal, left Nagloi for Ghaziabad with their 70-year-old mother, Suman Agrawal, in the car.
During the journey, when Mukesh informed his mother about Daulatram's death, the shock proved too much for her. She suffered a heart attack within minutes and died. The family then turned the car around and returned home with her body.
Aftermath and Final Rites
After the post-mortem examination, Daulatram's body was handed over to his grieving family. His son brought the body back to their home in Nagloi. In a poignant and sorrowful ceremony, the last rites of the mother and son were performed together.
The police investigation continues, with teams scouring footage and the area to identify the hit-and-run driver responsible for setting off this chain of devastating events.
