Ghaziabad Teen Murdered Over Video Game Taunts in Cafe, Two Minors Arrested
A tragic incident in Ghaziabad's Loni area has shocked the community, as a 16-year-old boy was brutally murdered by another minor following a prolonged argument rooted in taunts over video games at a local cafe. The fatal altercation occurred on Wednesday morning, highlighting the dangerous escalation of what began as a petty dispute.
Details of the Fatal Attack
The victim, identified as Faizan, a resident of Arya Nagar, was attacked around 11 am at a cafe near Naipura Chowk, located approximately 500 metres from his home. According to police reports, he was stabbed twice in the abdomen during the confrontation. Faizan was initially rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment but was later referred to GTB Hospital in East Delhi due to the severity of his injuries. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his wounds by evening, leaving his family and community in mourning.
Background of the Feud
Police investigations reveal that the two minors had been engaged in a running feud for over a month, stemming from insults exchanged during video game sessions at the cafe. Faizan was a regular patron for two years, often playing Tekken 3, a combat game involving successive rounds of one-on-one fights. The trouble reportedly began about one and a half months ago when Faizan lost a game to the 14-year-old accused, leading to a pattern of mutual taunting during subsequent gaming sessions.
The dispute escalated significantly a month ago when the accused confronted Faizan at a roadside momo stall where the victim worked, resulting in a heated argument. On Tuesday, just one day before the murder, taunting at the cafe again turned physical, with other patrons intervening to break up the fight. The situation reached its tragic climax on Wednesday when Faizan was at the cafe and the accused arrived, resuming the taunts and sparking another violent confrontation.
Arrests and Police Investigation
Two minors, aged 14 and 16, were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder. According to DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari, during the altercation, the 16-year-old boy accompanying the accused went to the latter's home, which is adjacent to the cafe, fetched a knife, and handed it to the 14-year-old, who then stabbed Faizan. The 14-year-old accused has claimed that Faizan provoked the original conflict, though police are continuing their investigation into the full circumstances.
Police have registered an FIR under BNS section 103 for murder. Since both accused are minors, they will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further legal proceedings. ACP Gyan Prakash Rai of Ankur Vihar stated that the 14-year-old reiterated during questioning that Faizan had provoked the initial dispute. Additionally, a senior officer noted that the accused's father and uncle were arrested in 2024 for allegedly shooting a labourer to death, with the uncle recently released on bail and the father still in custody.
Family's Anguish and Aftermath
Faizan's father, Naeem, a daily-wage labourer, was away at work during the attack and learned of his son's death only eight hours later upon returning home, as he did not have a phone to receive immediate updates. The emotional toll on the family is immense, with Faizan's elder brother, Mobeen, filing the police complaint. Mobeen recounted, "Both had a dispute for the last one to two months after my brother lost to him in the game a few times." This statement underscores the prolonged nature of the feud that ultimately led to the fatal outcome.
The incident has raised concerns about juvenile crime and the potential for minor disputes to escalate into violence, particularly in settings like gaming cafes. Authorities are urging parents and community members to be vigilant and address conflicts among youth proactively to prevent such tragedies in the future.
