Violent Altercation Erupts at Chapora Bar Over Spilled Drink, Six Injured
A minor mishap involving a spilled alcoholic beverage spiraled into a brutal physical confrontation at a bar in Chapora, Goa, during the early hours of April 16, resulting in injuries to six individuals from Manipur and leading to the filing of cross-complaints by both parties involved.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Violent Clash
According to police reports, the incident commenced around 12:30 AM when a waiter accidentally spilled alcohol on a customer. The situation rapidly deteriorated as the youths, allegedly retaliating, hurled abuses and threw a drink back at the waiter. Although the group initially departed the premises, they returned shortly thereafter with additional reinforcements, escalating the dispute into a full-blown physical altercation.
During the confrontation, bar staff are accused of employing wooden benches, fist blows, and baseball bats to assault the group. This violent response left six victims with varying degrees of injuries, all of whom were subsequently treated at the North Goa district hospital.
Details of the Injured Victims and Legal Actions
The most severely injured individual is a 19-year-old identified as D Pahrii, who sustained a serious nasal fracture and facial injuries. The other five injured persons include D Khohriilou (24), Graceson Gangmel (25), Merangchiba Walling (26), Shimmei Awungshi (24), and Somatai Zimik (27), each suffering different wounds from the assault.
Anjuna police have registered an offence against the bar staff based on a complaint filed by Ngaoveine Kyapaomai, who alleged a brutal assault involving baseball bats and glass bottles. The accused staff members have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 181(1) for voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means, Section 351(3) for aggravated criminal intimidation involving threats of death or grievous hurt, and Section 352 read with 3(5) for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace.
Cross-Complaints and Ongoing Police Investigation
In a countermove, the bar staff has filed a cross-complaint alleging acts of vandalism by the group from Manipur. Police have issued notices to the accused employees, requiring them to join the ongoing investigation as authorities work to unravel the complete sequence of events and determine liability.
The incident gained significant public attention after images of the injured individuals circulated widely on social media platforms, prompting immediate police intervention and heightened scrutiny of the case.
