Goa Bike Rental Dispute Turns Violent: Father-Son Duo Assaulted in Saligao

A peaceful Sunday evening in Saligao, Goa, turned violent when a local businessman and his son faced a brutal assault. The incident stemmed from a heated dispute over the rental bike queue system in the area.

Details of the Assault

Mahesh Naik, who owns a bike rental business, and his son Manjit Naik were attacked near a hotel in Saligao. Both residents of Grand Morod, they suffered injuries from fist blows and kicks during the altercation.

The Saligao police have taken swift action based on a complaint filed by Manjit Naik. They registered a case against three individuals: Krishna Kerkar, Rajendra Kerkar, and Dilip Kerkar. All three are also from Grand Morod, Saligao.

Police charged them with assaulting the father and son. The attackers also threatened the victims during the incident.

Additional Charges Filed

Two more people, Latesh Mandrekar and Nilesh Mandrekar, face legal action. Authorities booked them for wrongfully restraining Mahesh Naik. They prevented him from rescuing his son Manjit during the assault.

Root Cause of the Conflict

The violence erupted due to a disagreement over a recently introduced rental bike queue system. Mahesh Naik had refused to join this system. He preferred to run his business independently, which apparently provoked the attackers.

In a statement, Mahesh expressed his frustration. "We were assaulted while renting out our bikes without any reason. I am not part of that system and will run my own business," he said firmly.

This case highlights ongoing tensions in local business operations in Goa. It raises concerns about safety and fair competition in the rental industry.
