Goa Court Remands Man in Drunk Driving Fatal Case

The Mapusa judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court on Saturday remanded 29-year-old Yadukrishnan S Sajaikumar in five days of police custody following a fatal head-on collision in Siolim. The accused, a native of Alappuzha, Kerala, was arrested by Anjuna police after he drove a Mahindra Thar rashly under the influence of alcohol.

Details of the Incident

According to police reports, Yadukrishnan crossed into the oncoming lane and rammed into a scooter ridden by Sanket Dabholkar, 34. Dabholkar succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa. The pillion rider, Nischal Morajkar, 14, sustained grievous injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Medical Confirmation of Drunk Driving

Anjuna Police Inspector Krishna Sinari stated that a subsequent medical examination officially confirmed that the accused was driving under the influence of alcohol. Investigating officers noted that despite knowing the fatal risks of drunk driving, Yadukrishnan endangered public safety, leading to the tragic incident.

Charges and Background

Yadukrishnan, who has been working and staying in Goa since 2022, faces stringent charges for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and endangering human life. The police custody will allow further investigation into the case.
