Goa murder accused arrested in Thane by MBVV police

The Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have arrested a man accused of robbing and murdering a 58-year-old woman in Goa. The arrest took place in the Kashigaon area of Thane district, as confirmed by a senior official on Thursday.

Details of the Crime

The accused, identified as Sagar Ramesh Raul, is a native of Sindhudurg district. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal, Raul wanted to marry a woman in Old Goa, a plan strongly opposed by her mother, Shaila Ghadi. On May 19, Raul broke into Ghadi's residence in Sakhalim, which falls under the Bicholim police station limits in Goa. He robbed her of gold jewellery and a mobile phone before murdering her. The Bicholim police registered a case involving charges of murder, robbery, house-trespass, and other offences and launched an investigation.

How the Arrest Was Made

Using a combination of technical analysis, expert cyber surveillance, and ground intelligence, the Crime Branch Cell 4 of MBVV police tracked Raul to Kashigaon. He was apprehended on May 20. The ACP stated that the police recovered Ghadi's gold chain and mobile phone, collectively valued at Rs 1.11 lakh, from Raul's possession. Following the arrest, Raul was handed over to the Goa police for further legal proceedings.
