The police report indicates that the accused, identified as Jolly Ninan, was driving his SUV from Panaji towards Old Goa. According to the FIR, Ninan was operating his vehicle without taking proper care and caution. While on the Chimbel flyover, he suddenly changed lanes at a very high speed.

This reckless maneuver caused his SUV to collide with another SUV in which the couple from Bengaluru, Karnataka, were traveling. The impact of the crash was severe, forcing the victims' vehicle to hit the divider and then ram into an electricity pole. The car spun three times before coming to a stop, leaving both occupants, Anil Kumar and S Preethi, with injuries.

The case was formally registered by the police on Sunday, following the incident. Authorities have filed an offence against Jolly Ninan for driving his car in a rash and negligent manner, which directly led to the accident and subsequent injuries. A notice has already been served to the accused, initiating legal proceedings.
