Goa Police File Closure Reports in Judge-Restaurant Parking Dispute Case
In a significant development, the Goa police have officially filed closure reports in connection with First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against a lady civil judge from Uttar Pradesh and staff members at a restaurant in Anjuna. This action comes after both parties involved in the dispute reached an amicable settlement, effectively resolving the matter that originated from a parking issue.
Police Confirm Settlement and Closure
Anjuna Police Inspector Suraj Gawas confirmed the filing of the closure reports, stating, "We have filed closure reports in the cases against Chaudhary after both parties settled the case between them." He further elaborated that the judge and the restaurant staff initiated contact with each other and successfully resolved their differences, leading to the police's decision to close the cases.
Background of the Incident
The incident dates back to September 2025, when Deepanshi Chaudhary, a civil judge (senior division) from Uttar Pradesh, and her husband, Nitin Lal, visited a restaurant in Anjuna around 6:30 PM. A disagreement ensued with the restaurant staff over parking arrangements, escalating into a heated argument. Police were alerted to the scene following a call from the restaurant and subsequently brought the couple to the police station for further inquiry.
During the initial investigation, PI Gawas noted that Lal claimed to be an additional sessions judge but was unable to produce any identity card to substantiate his claim. In contrast, Chaudhary presented her ID but reportedly refused to allow police to take a photocopy or photograph of it for official records.
FIRs and Allegations
Based on Chaudhary's complaint, an FIR was registered against the restaurant staff, including individuals identified as Amit Mishra and security personnel. The allegations were serious, encompassing:
- Abusive behavior directed at the couple
- Physical pushing of the individuals
- Attempts to outrage Chaudhary's modesty
- Issuing threats before forcibly removing them from the premises over the parking issue
Conversely, FIRs were also filed against Chaudhary and her husband in relation to the incident. The entire altercation was captured on the restaurant's CCTV cameras, providing visual evidence of the events. Notably, during the investigation, it was reported that the judge declined to undergo a medical examination, which could have provided additional insights into the alleged physical altercation.
Resolution and Implications
The mutual settlement between the parties has led to the closure of all legal proceedings, highlighting a peaceful resolution to what could have been a protracted legal battle. This case underscores the importance of dialogue and compromise in resolving disputes, even when they involve individuals in positions of authority and serious allegations. The Goa police's handling of the matter, from registration of FIRs to filing closure reports upon settlement, demonstrates procedural adherence in such sensitive cases.
