Goa Police Constable Faces Criminal Charges Over Alleged Gold Theft at Fatal Accident Scene

In a shocking development that has raised serious questions about police conduct, the Goa police have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) against one of their own officers. The accused, Saish Parsekar, serves as a police constable driver attached to the State Police Control Room (SPCR).

The serious allegations center on the theft of valuable gold ornaments with an estimated worth of Rs 8 lakh. This incident is directly connected to a tragic road accident that occurred earlier this year.

Tragic Accident Precedes Alleged Theft

The sequence of events began on January 25 near Rocky Garage in Anjuna. According to police reports, 27-year-old Jaster Vincent Rodrigues, a resident of Quepem, was driving when he lost control of his vehicle. The car crashed violently into a coconut tree at the roadside.

The impact was severe enough to cause critical injuries to Rodrigues. Despite being rushed to the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa for emergency treatment, the young man succumbed to his injuries, marking a tragic end to what began as an ordinary day.

Brother's Complaint Triggers Police Investigation

During the subsequent investigation into the fatal accident, a disturbing allegation surfaced. The victim's brother, Jovy Rodrigues, came forward with a formal complaint to the Anjuna police.

He reported that Constable Saish Parsekar, who was present at the accident scene, had allegedly stolen valuable items from his deceased brother. The specific items mentioned in the complaint include:

  • A gold bracelet
  • A gold kada (a type of bangle)
  • A gold ring featuring a distinctive dollar-sign pattern

The combined value of these allegedly stolen gold ornaments is approximately Rs 8 lakh, making this a significant theft case.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Following the formal complaint by Jovy Rodrigues, the Anjuna police took immediate action. Anjuna Police Inspector Suraj Gawas confirmed that his team has registered the FIR against Constable Parsekar and launched a comprehensive investigation into the serious allegations.

Police officials provided additional context about the circumstances. The PCR vehicle containing Constable Parsekar was reportedly en route to address another distress call when they encountered the accident scene. Following standard procedure for emergency responders, they stopped to provide assistance to the crash victim.

This case presents a complex challenge for the Goa police force, as it involves serious allegations against one of their serving officers during what should have been a routine emergency response. The investigation will need to determine exactly what transpired at the accident scene and whether the allegations of theft have merit.

The registration of the FIR represents the formal beginning of the legal process, and the Anjuna police have emphasized their commitment to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation, regardless of the accused's position within the police department.
