In a significant move to bolster intelligence-driven policing and accelerate investigative processes, the Goa Police officially activated its state-of-the-art intelligence fusion centre on Tuesday. This initiative, launched at the crime branch in Panaji, marks a pivotal step towards modernizing law enforcement capabilities in the coastal state.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Inaugurates Dual Initiatives
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant unveiled two groundbreaking projects during a state-level conference aimed at disseminating the outcomes of the DGs and IGPs Conference 2025, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The first initiative is the e-zero FIR module, specifically designed to address cyber financial fraud cases, while the second is the Prism intelligence fusion centre, which stands for Proactive Risk Identification & Surveillance Mechanism.
Intelligence Fusion Centre: A Game-Changer for Policing
The newly operational intelligence fusion centre is poised to revolutionize how Goa Police handles criminal investigations. By providing technical support and critical intelligence inputs to police stations across the state, it aims to drastically reduce the time spent in the initial stages of investigations. This enhancement will enable quicker identification and arrest of accused persons, thereby improving overall law enforcement efficiency.
Director General of Police Alok Kumar elaborated on the centre's capabilities, stating that it will focus on collecting and analyzing data related to inter-state criminals, active criminal elements, and organized gangs that operate in or target Goa. The primary objectives of this centre include:
- Fast-tracking investigations through streamlined processes.
- Expanding the use of advanced analytical tools for data interpretation.
- Continuous monitoring of criminals via data-driven methodologies.
- Generating actionable intelligence for investigating officers statewide.
This integrated approach ensures that police personnel have access to real-time information, facilitating more effective crime prevention and resolution strategies.
e-Zero FIR Module: Immediate Relief for Cyber Fraud Victims
Parallel to the intelligence fusion centre, the e-zero FIR mechanism has been introduced to offer immediate assistance to victims of cyber financial fraud. This innovative system allows individuals to lodge complaints through the dedicated 1930 cyber crime helpline, ensuring a swift response to their grievances.
The process is designed with specific thresholds to optimize resource allocation:
- For fraud cases exceeding Rs 1 lakh, complaints are automatically converted into e-FIRs at the cyber police station.
- Cases involving amounts above Rs 5 lakh will be investigated directly by the cyber police station.
- Lower-value cases, below Rs 5 lakh, will be handled by local police stations, with technical support provided as needed.
This structured framework not only expedites the filing of complaints but also ensures that investigations are conducted by the appropriate authorities, enhancing the likelihood of successful outcomes for victims.
Enhancing Goa's Law Enforcement Infrastructure
The launch of these initiatives underscores Goa's commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology in policing. By integrating intelligence fusion with digital complaint mechanisms, the state aims to create a more responsive and efficient law enforcement ecosystem. These efforts align with broader national goals discussed at the DGs and IGPs Conference, reflecting a proactive approach to public safety and crime management.
As Goa Police embraces these advancements, residents can expect improved security measures and faster resolution of criminal cases, particularly in the realm of cyber financial fraud. The combination of data-driven intelligence and streamlined complaint processes sets a new benchmark for policing standards in India.
