Goa Police Pursue International Lookout Notice for Russian Suspects in High-Value Jewelry Burglary
In a significant development, the Colva police in Goa have formally initiated proceedings to obtain a 'Blue Corner' international lookout notice against two Russian nationals. The suspects are accused of orchestrating a sophisticated burglary at a jewelry shop located in Cavelossim, making off with cash and ornaments collectively valued at an estimated Rs 4.30 lakh.
Details of the Alleged Burglary and Investigation
According to the official complaint lodged by shop proprietor Khursheed Ahmad Guroo, the criminal incident unfolded during the late hours of April 7. The accused individuals reportedly gained unlawful entry into the commercial establishment by forcibly breaking open a sturdy wooden door. Once inside, they swiftly seized Rs 2.30 lakh in liquid cash alongside a substantial quantity of silver jewelry, appraised at approximately Rs 2 lakh.
The theft was ultimately discovered when attentive employees, working beyond regular business hours, observed suspicious movements and promptly raised a vocal alarm. This immediate alert caused the perpetrators to abandon their planned escape route, leaving behind a two-wheeler vehicle at the crime scene as they fled on foot.
Sophisticated Evasion Tactics and Police Response
Colva Police Inspector Vikram Naik provided critical insights into the investigation, revealing the suspects' deliberate efforts to avoid identification. The accused had employed a counterfeit vehicle registration sticker, meticulously placed over the original license plate, in a clear attempt to mislead law enforcement and witnesses.
Through diligent investigative work, police personnel successfully traced the abandoned vehicle to a rental service based in Morjim. Authorities contacted the vehicle's owner, thereby obtaining preliminary identification details for the two Russian suspects. However, Inspector Naik confirmed that their precise residential address within India remains currently unknown and unverified.
Compounding the investigative challenge, the suspects primarily utilized encrypted WhatsApp calls for communication, severely limiting the ability of police to monitor their movements through traditional cellular tracking methodologies.
Escalated Security Measures and Preventive Actions
In light of the serious nature of the offence and the international status of the accused, the Colva police have escalated their response. Authorities have proactively issued alerts to relevant agencies at major airports and other key enforcement checkpoints across the region.
