Head Constable Suspended Over CM Convoy Incident
Margao: The Goa police have suspended head constable Samir Fadte, who was among four individuals taken into preventive custody after his vehicle came dangerously close to the convoy of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in Amona last week. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
On the night of June 12, Fadte was driving a four-wheeler when he allegedly lost control near Amona, bringing it perilously close to the chief minister's motorcade as Sawant was traveling from Panaji to his residence in Sanquelim. A vehicle in the convoy chased Fadte's car after it attempted to flee the scene. The three occupants, all friends of Fadte, were handed over to the Bicholim police. Fadte, who had disappeared from the spot, was traced the following day.
The Bicholim police stated that all four individuals, including Fadte, were under the influence of alcohol. The three others were detained for helping the driver escape. All four were produced before the deputy collector, where they signed a bond of good behavior and were released. No FIR was registered as the incident did not result in a collision.
