Panaji: The crime branch of Goa police conducted a state-wide verification drive at scrapyards on Thursday as part of preventive policing and internal security measures. The drive aimed to verify workers and identify any illegal immigrants or individuals staying or working without valid documents.
Details of the Operation
SP crime branch Rahul Gupta stated that nine teams of the crime branch were deployed simultaneously across the state. During the drive, police teams checked 48 scrapyards in various areas, including Mapusa, Colvale, Porvorim, Betim, Margao, Davorlim, Dicarpale, Zuarinagar, Cortalim, and other locations.
The operation began at approximately 11 am and continued across multiple locations. Police teams verified identity documents and particulars of workers present at these establishments.
Verification Results
A total of 172 people were verified during the drive. Owners and managers of scrapyards were instructed to maintain proper records of workers, verify identity documents before employment, and immediately report any suspicious person or activity to the police.
This proactive measure underscores the Goa police's commitment to ensuring internal security and preventing illegal activities within the state.
