Goa suspends Jagdish Sardesai's driving licence for six months

Panaji: The assistant director of transport (North), Panaji, has ordered the suspension of Jagdish Sardesai's driving licence for a period of six months following a probe into a case of negligent driving under the influence of alcohol that led to an accident last month. The directive was issued on Wednesday after a thorough review of records, submissions, and evidence presented before the licensing authority.

The suspension order targets driving licence number GA07 20170000212, issued to Sardessai (27), a resident of Caranzalem. The action has been taken under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

According to the order signed by Oswin Carvalho, Assistant Director of Transport (North) and Registering and Licensing Authority, the violations fall under Sections 19(1)(a), (c), and (f), and 185(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. These offences pertain to negligent driving while intoxicated, resulting in an accident, which the order describes as serious in nature.

The licence has been suspended for six months, effective from June 17 to December 17. The order emphasizes that such violations attract maximum penalties under the Act and Rules, and the authority is convinced that suspension is appropriate in this case.

TOI reported on May 21 that Sardesai, 27, was arrested by Panaji police for drunk, rash, and negligent driving after a viral social media video showed him crashing his BMW into multiple vehicles at night.
