Self-Styled Godman Apprehended in Mumbai for Unauthorized Railway Advertising
A joint team from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central and Western Railway has arrested a self-proclaimed godman, often referred to as a "Bengali baba," for illegally pasting and distributing promotional materials on trains and within railway premises in Mumbai. The operation, which took place on February 17, targeted the unauthorized advertising activities that have been disrupting railway operations.
Details of the Arrest and Recovery
Acting on specific intelligence, authorities apprehended Mohammad Nazir Andari from a dargah located at Reay Road. During the arrest, approximately 15,000 printed posters were seized from his possession. These materials were intended for widespread distribution across railway facilities without any official permission from the Railways.
In subsequent interrogation, Andari confessed to utilizing railway infrastructure, including train coaches, to promote his business ventures. He admitted to bypassing all regulatory protocols, highlighting a blatant disregard for railway rules and public property.
Ongoing Investigation and Broader Implications
An FIR has been officially registered against Andari, marking the start of a deeper probe into this illicit operation. Further questioning has uncovered the involvement of additional suspects who allegedly assisted him in the printing and pasting of publicity material inside railway coaches.
The investigation is currently focused on identifying and apprehending these associates. Authorities are also examining financial transactions linked to the printing agency involved, aiming to trace the funding sources and dismantle the network behind this illegal advertising scheme.
This incident underscores the challenges faced by railway authorities in maintaining the integrity of public spaces and preventing unauthorized commercial activities. It serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for those who exploit railway premises for personal gain without proper authorization.
