Gorakhpur Police Investigate CMO Impersonation and Extortion Attempt
In a startling incident in Gorakhpur, an unidentified individual allegedly impersonated Chief Medical Officer Rajesh Jha in an attempt to extort money from a local medical store operator. According to police reports, the accused contacted the store owner by phone, falsely claiming to be the CMO and demanding a payment. The medical store operator, however, grew suspicious during the conversation and decided to verify the caller's identity by directly contacting the actual Chief Medical Officer, Rajesh Jha. This quick thinking exposed the fraudulent attempt, preventing any financial loss.
Police Register FIR and Launch Investigation
Following a formal complaint filed by CMO Rajesh Jha on Sunday evening, the Cantt police station in Gorakhpur promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. During the preliminary probe, police discovered that the mobile number used by the impersonator is registered under the name of an individual from Lakhimpur Kheri. However, further technical surveillance revealed a twist: the number is currently active in Maharashtra, indicating potential cross-state criminal activity.
