In a shocking incident from Gorakhpur, a man has been accused of murdering his wife over suspicions of her talking to another man on a mobile phone. The accused allegedly strangled the victim and then buried her body in a deep pit behind their house, with the crime remaining hidden for four days.
Father-in-Law's Complaint Uncovers the Crime
The grim episode came to light only when the victim's own father-in-law approached the police. Shyam Narayan walked into the Belghat police station on Thursday morning and submitted a written complaint, expressing his strong suspicion that his son, Arjun, had killed his daughter-in-law, Khushboo, and disposed of her body. This act set the investigation in motion.
According to the police, the accused, Arjun, a resident of Baili Kund village, had recently returned home from Ludhiana, where he worked as a labourer. He had been back for about 15 days. The fateful incident occurred on the night of December 21. Following a heated argument, Arjun allegedly strangled his 25-year-old wife.
The Deception and Confession
In the days following the murder, Arjun told family members from both sides that Khushboo had left the house without informing anyone. This led to frantic but futile searches by her natal and in-law families. After his father's complaint, police teams detained Arjun for questioning.
During interrogation, his story kept changing. He first claimed that Khushboo had died by suicide and that he had thrown her body into a river. He even took the police to a riverbank outside the village, where he misled investigators for nearly two hours by failing to identify the exact spot.
Sensing deception, the police subjected him to sustained questioning. This pressure led Arjun to break down and confess to the actual crime. He revealed that he suspected his wife of hiding a mobile phone and secretly talking to a boyfriend. The dispute escalated late at night when they were alone at home, culminating in her murder. After killing her, he dug a six-foot-deep pit behind the house and buried the body.
Body Exhumed, Case Registered
On Thursday afternoon, based on Arjun's confession, the police exhumed the body from behind the house in the presence of forensic experts. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and evidence was collected from the spot.
Based on a formal complaint filed by Khushboo's younger brother, the police have registered a murder case against Arjun. Senior Superintendent of Police Rajkaran Naiyyar confirmed the registration of the case and stated that the probe is ongoing.
The couple had been married for about two years and had no children. Tragically, Khushboo's parents are deceased. Her brother and other relatives reached the village after being informed of her death. The case highlights a tragic instance of extreme suspicion and domestic violence leading to a horrific outcome.
