The Saudi Ministry of Defence has announced a significant defensive operation, successfully intercepting and downing four drones over the Eastern Province of the kingdom. This action comes as part of a series of aerial threats targeting key areas, including the capital Riyadh and eastern regions, which are vital residential and economic hubs.

In a related incident, the military confirmed the shooting down of a ballistic missile over Riyadh, highlighting the escalating security challenges faced by Saudi Arabia. These events occurred in the early hours of March 22, 2026, prompting the Saudi Civil Defence to issue a public warning about potential aerial risks. However, the alert was cancelled just seven minutes later after authorities assessed that the danger had passed.
Condemnation of Iranian Aggression
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong statement, unequivocally condemning what it describes as "blatant Iranian attacks" directed at the Kingdom. In a formal communication released via the Saudi Press Agency, the ministry emphasized that Iran's continued targeting of Saudi sovereignty, civilian objects, economic interests, and diplomatic premises constitutes a flagrant violation of international conventions, including:

- The Beijing Agreement
- United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817
The statement further noted a contradiction between Iran's actions and the principles of Islamic brotherhood, asserting that Tehran's rhetoric does not align with its military conduct.
Diplomatic Expulsion and Warnings
In response to these hostilities, Saudi Arabia has taken decisive diplomatic measures, ordering the expulsion of Iranian military personnel from the country. Specifically, the military attache, assistant military attache, and three mission staff members of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran have been declared personae non gratae and must depart within 24 hours.
The ministry warned that such aggression could lead to further escalation with serious consequences for future relations, recalling a previous declaration from March 9 regarding the persistence of these threats.
Saudi Arabia's Commitment to Defence
Reaffirming its resolve, Saudi Arabia stated it will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to preserve its sovereignty and safeguard security. Invoking Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, Riyadh affirmed its right to defend its territory, airspace, citizens, residents, resources, and interests against any threats.
