In a horrifying incident of dowry death in Greater Noida, the postmortem report of a 26-year-old woman has revealed multiple internal injuries, including a brain bleed and ruptured organs. The victim, identified as Priya Sharma, died under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws' residence in the Beta-2 area on Wednesday.
Postmortem Findings Shocking
The autopsy conducted at the District Hospital found severe trauma to the head, leading to intracranial hemorrhage. Additionally, her liver and spleen were ruptured, indicating brutal physical assault. The report has been submitted to the police, who have registered a case of dowry death under section 304B of the Indian Penal Code.
Family Alleges Harassment
The victim's father, Ramesh Sharma, alleged that his daughter was constantly harassed for dowry by her husband and in-laws. "They demanded a car and cash, and when we couldn't fulfill their demands, they tortured her. She was killed," he said. The family has also accused the in-laws of trying to destroy evidence by washing the body before the postmortem.
Police Investigation Underway
Greater Noida Police have arrested the husband, Vikas Sharma, and his parents. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. "We are investigating the case thoroughly. The postmortem report confirms the brutality. We will ensure strict action," said SHO Beta-2 police station.
This case has once again highlighted the menace of dowry deaths in Uttar Pradesh. According to National Crime Records Bureau data, the state reported over 2,000 dowry deaths in 2024. Activists demand stricter implementation of laws and awareness campaigns to curb this social evil.
