Head-on Collision Claims Two Lives on NH-68

Two cousins, including a 21-year-old groom-to-be, were killed in a road accident in Rajasthan's Barmer district on Monday, just a day before the scheduled wedding. The incident occurred on National Highway-68 under the Sadar police station area when a pickup truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with their motorcycle, according to police officials.

The deceased were identified as Narpatram (21) and his cousin Sukhdev (27), both residents of Sedwa Gauda village. Narpatram was set to marry on Tuesday, making the tragedy particularly devastating for the family.

Details of the Incident

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector Yusuf Khan, the two had gone to Barmer city along with family members to purchase wedding items. They were returning to their village on a motorcycle, while other family members followed in a separate vehicle carrying the purchased goods. The pickup driver abandoned the vehicle at the crash site and fled the scene.

Family members and local residents rushed the injured to a hospital, where Sukhdev was declared brought dead. Narpatram was later referred to Sanchore for advanced treatment but succumbed to his injuries en route or during treatment.

Police Investigation Underway

Police reached the spot after receiving information and seized both the pickup and the motorcycle. Assistant Sub-Inspector Yusuf Khan stated that further action will be taken based on a complaint from the victims' family. Efforts are ongoing to trace the absconding driver, who faces charges related to reckless driving and causing death by negligence.

The accident highlights the persistent issue of road safety on NH-68, a highway known for heavy traffic and frequent accidents. Local residents have previously demanded better road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic rules.

Community in Mourning

The double tragedy has plunged Sedwa Gauda village into mourning. Preparations for Narpatram's wedding, which were underway, have been replaced by funeral arrangements. Family members are inconsolable, and the community has rallied to support them.

According to police, the pickup truck was likely speeding, and the driver's negligence led to the fatal collision. Investigations are focusing on tracing the vehicle's owner and the driver, who remains at large.
