GST & Police Impersonators Execute Brazen Gold Heist in Andhra Pradesh
In a shocking incident that has rattled the local community, criminals disguised as government officials carried out a daring daylight robbery at a jewellery shop in Palasa-Kasibugga town, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh. The audacious crime occurred on Tuesday, with the perpetrators making off with a substantial haul of gold ornaments after threatening the shop owner and staff at gunpoint.
Details of the Daylight Robbery
The targeted establishment was Sri Venkateswara Jewellers, a well-known shop that has been operating in Nithyananda Nagar for more than ten years. According to shop owner K Ramakrishna, the incident unfolded around 12:30 PM when six to eight individuals, all wearing masks, sunglasses, and caps, entered the premises. They immediately claimed to be officials from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department and the police force, stating they were there to conduct a search operation.
"They did not give us any chance to question them," Ramakrishna recounted. "They immediately handcuffed me, threatened my staff with a gun, collected gold ornaments and fled from the spot on bikes." The criminals swiftly looted over 800 grams of gold jewellery before making their escape, leaving the owner and employees in a state of shock and fear.
Police Investigation and Response
Realizing that the visitors were impostors, Ramakrishna promptly informed the Kasibugga police about the broad-daylight robbery. A police team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Srinivasa Rao and Inspector Ramakrishna, along with a clues team, quickly arrived at the scene to collect evidence and begin their investigation.
CCTV footage from outside the shop reportedly captured some members of the gang fleeing the location while still wearing their disguises of face masks, sunglasses, and caps. Despite police intensifying vehicle checks at strategic locations in and around the Palasa region, no significant leads have been uncovered so far in the case.
Ongoing Efforts to Crack the Case
In response to this high-profile crime, special teams have been formed to pursue all possible angles. Authorities are meticulously examining CCTV footage from multiple locations in the area to trace the movements of the suspects and identify any vehicles involved in the getaway.
