A simple sweet dish missing from a wedding menu has triggered a serious police case in Surat. A 28-year-old woman from the city filed a formal complaint with Salabatpura police. She accused her husband and his relatives of persistent dowry harassment and marital cruelty.

The complaint names her husband, his father, and his uncle as the accused. All three individuals reside in Viramgam. The woman alleged that the trio demanded a hefty dowry from her family. They asked for Rs 10 lakh in cash and 116.6 grams of gold.
Harassment Over Missing Gulab Jamun
She claimed the harassment started soon after her marriage in December 2023. The couple initially spent ten days at an NRI relative's home in Bharuch. Then they moved to Viramgam. The accused began taunting her immediately. They focused on the absence of 'Gulab Jamun' from the wedding menu. They used this as a pretext to press for additional dowry.
The woman is a graduate. She stated her husband harassed her over the phone during a trip to Goa. The demands and taunts continued relentlessly.
Serious Allegations of Sexual Harassment
The complaint contains grave allegations of sexual misconduct. The woman accused her father-in-law of kissing her without consent. She also alleged that his younger brother exposed himself to her. He made sexually suggestive remarks in her presence.

In February 2024, the woman returned to her father's home in Surat. The accused continued to threaten her and call her. However, they made no attempt to bring her back to Viramgam.
Finally, the victim gathered courage and approached the police. She filed a formal complaint under relevant laws. The case is registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act. Police are now investigating the matter thoroughly.
