Gurgaon Tragedy: Father Jumps from 23rd Floor with Toddler, Investigation Underway
A devastating incident unfolded in Gurgaon on Monday morning when a 38-year-old man leaped to his death from the 23rd floor of a residential tower in Joyville society, Sector 102, while carrying his two-year-old daughter in his arms. The man had told his wife he was taking the toddler downstairs to play in the park, but instead, he took her to the terrace around 7:30 am. Police received information about the incident around 8 am and rushed to the spot, where both were found critically injured and later declared dead on arrival at a nearby private hospital.
Family Background and Disturbing Details
The man had been residing in the society for the past two years with his wife and their young daughter. Originally from Nangloi in Delhi, the family operated a public school in Kirari, which caters to students up to Class V. According to a senior police officer, the wife was in the kitchen preparing breakfast when her husband informed her he was taking their daughter out to play. Shortly after, residents heard a loud commotion near the tower and gathered outside.
Upon hearing the noise, the wife stepped out and witnessed a man and a child lying on the ground, their clothes soaked in blood. She rushed downstairs with other residents, only to discover that the two were her husband and daughter. The man's brother revealed to police that he had been suffering from various health problems since the Covid pandemic, including complete vision loss in one eye and deteriorating sight in the other, which had left him deeply troubled for an extended period.
Police Investigation and Family Response
Police are currently examining the sequence of events, with a particular focus on why the father took the child with him before leaping from the terrace. An officer stated, "The circumstances appear suspicious, which is why we have initiated an investigation." The couple, who married in 2014, would often leave their daughter with her grandparents when they traveled to Delhi to manage their school. The family has not alleged any foul play and declined to file a complaint. After an autopsy, the bodies were handed over to them.
