The Emirates flight EK543, bound for Dubai from Chennai with 206 passengers aboard, took off at 4:00 AM local time. However, when the aircraft was cruising at approximately 34,000 feet over the Arabian Sea, the pilot received an urgent alert from authorities instructing them not to proceed further due to the security situation at Dubai airport.
The pilot immediately initiated a return procedure, safely landing the aircraft back at Chennai International Airport at 6:45 AM. The flight was subsequently declared cancelled, and all passengers were deboarded with instructions to reschedule their journeys.

The sudden cancellation created significant travel disruptions for passengers. Harini, a Chennai resident who was transiting through Dubai to reach London, expressed concern about missing work commitments in the UK due to the flight cancellation.
Another passenger, Syed Hasan, revealed this was the third time his travel plans to visit his wife in Dubai had been disrupted within a week. Senior citizen passenger Usha noted that the flight crew had not provided detailed explanations about the reason for the unexpected return during the flight.
Second Flight from Ahmedabad Also Returns
In a parallel incident, Emirates flight EK539 from Ahmedabad to Dubai, carrying over 250 passengers, was also forced to return shortly after takeoff early Monday morning. This additional return further highlighted the operational disruptions at Dubai airport following the drone strike incident.
Colombo-Dubai Flight Diverted to Ahmedabad
In a separate but related development, Emirates flight EK649 from Colombo to Dubai was diverted to Ahmedabad, landing at 11:36 AM with nearly 300 passengers on board. This diversion added to the growing list of flight disruptions affecting Dubai-bound air traffic from South Asia.
