Gurgaon Logistics Hub Theft: Rs 9 Lakh Mobile Phones Stolen in Security Breach

In a significant security lapse at a logistics hub in Gurgaon, a consignment containing mobile phones valued at Rs 9 lakh has gone missing, leading to a criminal case against four individuals, including two former employees. The incident occurred at the Binola facility operated by Instakart Services Private Limited, which functions under the E-Kart logistics brand.

Discovery of the Theft and CCTV Evidence

According to company official Ritindeep, aged 32, the theft was uncovered during the processing of a shipment that had arrived from Farrukhabad. During unloading procedures, a high-value box packed with mobile phones was found to be missing. An immediate review of CCTV footage revealed four suspects—identified as Haricharan, Sandeep, Arun, and Nitin—allegedly carrying the stolen box through the facility and exiting via a lift.

Apprehension of the Accused and Recovery of Stolen Goods

On March 18, the company's security team spotted one of the accused inside the hub while he was carrying another box. When confronted, the remaining suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended outside the premises. During the arrest, ten mobile phones were recovered from their possession, linking them directly to the theft.

Exploitation of Security Vulnerabilities

The complaint filed by the company highlights that the suspects repeatedly entered the hub through a backdoor that lacked security deployment. They allegedly stole mobile phones on multiple occasions and stored additional stolen devices at their residences. Ritindeep explained that the accused took advantage of the large workforce at the facility, which employs around 1,000 workers per shift, to avoid detection.

Access Methods and Legal Action

Police investigations indicate that the suspects, including the ex-employees, still possessed their company identity cards, granting them easy access to the premises. Others reportedly scaled walls to enter the hub. A case has been registered under Section 305 (theft in a dwelling house) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Bilaspur Station House Officer (SHO) stated that authorities are verifying the CCTV footage provided by the company and that arrests will be made following a thorough investigation.

This incident underscores critical security flaws in logistics operations and raises concerns about internal threats within large-scale facilities. The ongoing probe aims to uncover the full extent of the thefts and implement stricter security measures to prevent future occurrences.
