Gurgaon Man Succumbs to Injuries After Vegetable Market Accident
A 52-year-old man, identified as Vijendra, passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment for critical injuries sustained in a road accident near Khandsa vegetable market in Gurgaon on March 7. The incident has led to police adding charges of death by negligence to the ongoing investigation.
Details of the Gurgaon Incident
According to a complaint filed by his son, Bambam Kumar, at the Civil Lines police station, Vijendra had gone to the Khandsa vegetable market around 6 am on March 7 to purchase vegetables. Around 10 am, Bambam received a call from his father's mobile phone informing him that Vijendra had been involved in an accident and admitted to Kalyani Hospital in Sector 14.
Upon reaching the hospital, Bambam was told by staff that his father had been brought there by the driver of a vehicle. Bambam later contacted the driver using the phone number provided by the hospital, but the driver denied any responsibility for the accident. In his complaint, Bambam alleged that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving and sought legal action against the driver.
Police received a medico-legal report related to the injured man from Sector 14 police station and visited the hospital to record Vijendra's statement. However, doctors informed them that he was unconscious, on mechanical ventilation, and not in a condition to provide a statement.
Based on the complaint, police initially registered a case under sections 125(A) (act endangering life) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following Vijendra's death on Monday, section 106 (death by negligence) was added to the First Information Report (FIR).
Separate Fatality in Faridabad
In a related incident in Faridabad, a 13-year-old boy died and his elder brother was injured after their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the YMCA flyover on Sunday night. Police identified the boys as Rehan (16) and Arsh (13), residents of Adarsh Nagar, Ballabgarh.
The boys had left their home around 8:30 pm on March 8 to go towards Bata Chowk when the accident occurred around 9 pm. Arsh died on the spot due to severe injuries, while Rehan was taken to a hospital for treatment. Based on a complaint filed by their father, Salim Khan, police registered a case under sections 106 and 281 of the BNS against an unknown driver.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety and negligent driving in the region, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and public awareness.
