Elderly Man Fatally Struck by Car in Gurgaon's Udyog Vihar
A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 65-year-old man in Gurgaon on Monday morning. The incident occurred in Udyog Vihar Phase 3, approximately 25-50 meters from DLF Cyber Park, according to police reports.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The victim, identified as Samson Samuel, a resident of Chattarpur in Delhi, was on his way to his workplace in Udyog Vihar Phase 5, where he worked as a steward at a hotel. Samuel had alighted from a bus near Ambience Mall and was crossing the road towards Udyog Vihar when a grey Hyundai Santro struck him.
The impact resulted in severe injuries, including a fractured hand and critical head trauma from the windscreen. Eyewitness accounts cited by Samuel's son, Johnson, indicate that the victim had crossed nearly 75% of the road when the speeding car hit him.
Immediate Response and Legal Proceedings
The driver of the car immediately transported Samuel to Narayana Hospital in DLF Phase 3. Despite prompt medical attention, doctors declared him dead during treatment. The family was informed of the incident via a call from the hospital.
Upon arrival at the scene, police found the victim had already been shifted. A crime team and forensic experts conducted a thorough inspection, collecting evidence from the site. An FIR has been registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS.
Authorities stated that a notice will be served to the driver as part of the legal process, with further action contingent on the investigation. The body was sent for an autopsy and later handed over to the family for last rites. Police are currently examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to gather additional insights.
Second Road Fatality: Motorcyclist Dies After Hit-and-Run on KMP Route
In a separate incident, a motorcycle rider succumbed to injuries two days after a hit-and-run accident near the Panchgaon toll on the KMP route. The victim, Bharat Singh, a resident of Ward 10 in Pahad Colony, operated a medical shop in Kasan village.
Chronology of the KMP Accident
The accident occurred on April 11 around 4 pm when Singh was traveling home to Sohna from Kasan on his motorcycle. According to a complaint, an unidentified vehicle hit him approximately 1 km ahead of the Panchgaon toll. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Passers-by alerted emergency services, and an ambulance transported the injured man to a private hospital in Rewari for treatment. Despite ongoing medical care, Singh succumbed to his injuries on April 13. A case has been registered under Sections 106 and 281 at Bilaspur police station.
Broader Implications for Road Safety
These back-to-back fatalities highlight pressing concerns about road safety in the Gurgaon region. Key issues include:
- Pedestrian safety: The Udyog Vihar incident underscores risks for pedestrians crossing busy roads.
- Hit-and-run cases: The KMP route accident reflects the dangers of fleeing accident scenes.
- Enforcement measures: Police actions, such as FIR registrations and CCTV reviews, aim to address negligence.
Authorities continue to investigate both cases, emphasizing the need for stricter adherence to traffic regulations and enhanced safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
