Gurgaon Traffic Police Launch Major Enforcement Drive Against Uniform Violations
In a significant crackdown on traffic violations, the Gurgaon traffic police have issued challans to 817 auto-rickshaw, e-rickshaw, and taxi drivers for operating without the prescribed uniform. The special enforcement drive, conducted between April 10 and April 20, resulted in fines totaling Rs 6,36,500 being imposed on non-compliant drivers.
Campaign Aims to Enhance Public Transport Safety and Accountability
Officials stated that the campaign was specifically designed to improve compliance among commercial vehicle drivers and bring greater discipline to public transport operations throughout the city. Despite repeated awareness campaigns conducted over previous months, many drivers continued to ply their vehicles without the mandatory grey uniform, prompting authorities to initiate stricter enforcement measures.
"The uniform requirement serves multiple important purposes," explained a senior traffic police officer. "It ensures easy identification of authorised drivers, enhances passenger safety, and promotes accountability among transport operators. Compliance with such norms represents a key component of maintaining an organised and reliable public transport system that citizens can trust."
Parallel Drive Targets Illegal Parking Violations
In a related enforcement initiative, the traffic police launched a separate drive against illegally parked vehicles from April 12 to April 19. During this week-long campaign, authorities towed 480 vehicles using cranes and issued challans for parking violations across major roads, intersections, and public spaces throughout Gurgaon.
Traffic officials emphasized that illegal parking represents a major contributor to urban congestion, particularly during peak hours when traffic volumes are highest. The systematic removal of improperly parked vehicles is intended to reduce bottlenecks and improve overall traffic flow across the city's transportation network.
Continued Enforcement and Public Awareness Initiatives
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Prateek Gahlot confirmed that both enforcement drives will continue in the coming days and weeks. He issued a direct appeal to commercial vehicle drivers, urging them to strictly follow uniform norms as mandated by transportation regulations.
"We are also appealing to all residents to comply with traffic regulations," Gahlot emphasized. "Collective adherence to these rules is absolutely essential for creating safer and more efficient roads for everyone who uses Gurgaon's transportation infrastructure."
Beyond enforcement actions, traffic personnel have been actively sensitizing drivers on various aspects of road safety and responsible conduct. These educational initiatives cover multiple areas including courteous behaviour toward passengers, strict adherence to posted speed limits, avoiding mobile phone use while driving, and complete abstinence from intoxicants during working hours.
Authorities are also spreading awareness about emergency response services available to the public, particularly highlighting Dial 112 and helpline number 1095. This outreach aims to ensure better public awareness and quicker assistance in case of emergencies on Gurgaon's roads.
The comprehensive approach combining enforcement with education reflects the traffic police's commitment to creating a safer, more organized transportation environment in one of India's most rapidly developing urban centers.
