Gurgaon Woman Arrested After Husband's Stabbing Death Initially Reported as Heart Attack
In a shocking turn of events in Gurgaon, a 43-year-old woman has been arrested for culpable homicide not amounting to murder after her husband died from a knife injury. The case took a dramatic twist when the family initially claimed the victim died of a heart attack, only for the autopsy to reveal a fatal stab wound to the chest.
Initial Investigation Under Section 174 of BNSS
The incident unfolded in Nakhdola village of Gurgaon, where Sunil, a 45-year-old resident, was reported dead. Police initially initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deals with police procedures for non-cognizable offences, after the family stated he had succumbed to a heart attack. The last rites were performed on Monday based on this initial information.
Autopsy Reveals Stab Injury, Case Registered
However, the situation changed dramatically when the autopsy report revealed that Sunil had suffered a stab injury to the chest. Following this discovery, police registered a case against Mamta, the 43-year-old wife of the deceased and also a resident of Nakhdola village, on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar stated, "During preliminary interrogation, the accused said in an attempt to support him, he accidentally got injured by the knife in her hand. She said the incident was unintentional and without any criminal intent."
Sequence of Events Leading to Arrest
The investigation began when police received information from a private hospital in Gurgaon on Sunday that a man had been brought dead. Based on the statement of the deceased's son, authorities conducted necessary proceedings and sent the body for autopsy.
On Monday, a written complaint was submitted at Kherki Daula police station by Sunil's uncle after receiving the autopsy report. In his complaint, the uncle revealed that the family was initially informed about the heart attack death, but later learned the truth about Sunday's events.
Accidental Injury Claim During Intoxicated State
According to the complaint, Sunil returned home on Sunday in an intoxicated condition. When he went to the bathroom, he lost his balance. At that moment, his wife Mamta was cutting vegetables in the hall. As she rushed to save him from falling, Sunil allegedly suffered a chest injury from the vegetable-cutting knife she was holding, which ultimately led to his death.
The case highlights how initial reports can sometimes mask the true nature of incidents, with police having to rely on forensic evidence to uncover the facts. The arrest underscores the importance of thorough investigation procedures in determining the circumstances surrounding suspicious deaths.
