In a shocking incident in Gurugram, a man allegedly poisoned his wife and four children before attempting to take his own life. The family was found unconscious in their home in the Sector 10 area late Tuesday night.
Incident Details
The accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, a 38-year-old private company employee, is suspected of mixing poison in the dinner served to his family. After consuming the meal, his wife, Sunita (35), and their four children — two sons aged 10 and 7, and two daughters aged 5 and 3 — fell unconscious. Rajesh also consumed the poisoned food but survived.
Discovery and Rescue
The incident came to light when a neighbor noticed that the family's house remained locked and no one responded to calls. The neighbor alerted the police, who broke open the door and found all five members lying unconscious. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Sunita and the children were declared dead on arrival. Rajesh was admitted to the intensive care unit and is reported to be out of danger.
Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case of murder and attempt to suicide. Preliminary investigations suggest that Rajesh was under financial stress and had been depressed for some time. A suicide note was recovered from the spot, in which he allegedly blamed his financial woes and stated that he could not bear to see his family suffer. The police are questioning neighbors and colleagues to ascertain the exact motive.
Community Shocked
The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, with residents expressing disbelief and grief. Local authorities have urged people to seek help if they face financial or mental health issues. Counselling sessions have been organized for the community to cope with the tragedy.
Further investigation is ongoing, and the police are awaiting Rajesh's statement once he recovers. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
