Security Intensified After Delhi Terror Incident
In response to the deadly explosion near Delhi's Red Fort that claimed at least 12 lives and injured several others, Gurugram police has implemented stringent security measures across the city. The authorities have directed all housing societies to submit comprehensive lists of residents hailing from Jammu and Kashmir as well as foreign nationals staying within their premises.
The order, issued by District Magistrate Ajay Kumar on November 12, will remain effective until January 31, 2026. This extensive verification drive forms part of coordinated security preparations ahead of major national celebrations including New Year and Republic Day.
Comprehensive Verification Drive Launched
House owners and paying guest accommodations have received instructions to maintain detailed registers of all tenants and visitors, ensuring thorough documentation of temporary residents. The directive emphasizes the need for regular updates and proper maintenance of these records throughout the enforcement period.
Vishnu Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Police, clarified that the measures represent routine security protocols rather than targeted actions. "We are inquiring about who has come from where and for how long they have been staying here. This includes people from Jammu and Kashmir as well as foreigners," Prasad stated, emphasizing that the initiative serves purely security purposes.
Mixed Reactions from Residents
While authorities stress the security necessity behind these measures, some residents have expressed concerns about potential profiling. Sana Khan, a Sector 56 resident, voiced apprehension that the order might foster unnecessary suspicion toward individuals from specific regions.
"We all want security, but it shouldn't come at the cost of profiling an entire community. The focus should be on suspicious behaviour, not identity," Khan told Hindustan Times, highlighting the delicate balance between security and civil liberties.
District Magistrate Ajay Kumar addressed these concerns by explaining, "Gurugram is a cosmopolitan city, and our intent is only to ensure safety for everyone through structured verification."

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially classified the car explosion as a 'heinous terror incident' and reaffirmed India's zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. Investigative agencies have received directives to handle the case with utmost urgency and professionalism.
Authorities have confirmed that the situation remains under close monitoring at the highest government levels. In a significant development, the previous owner of the vehicle involved in the explosion has been detained from Gurugram. Md Salman, who had sold the car to an individual in Okhla, remained the registered owner with Haryana license plates.
Police maintain high alert status across Gurugram and continue reviewing security protocols in the aftermath of the tragic incident. The coordinated efforts between multiple security agencies aim to prevent similar occurrences during the upcoming festive season and national celebrations.
