In a shocking incident, Gurugram police have arrested a 29-year-old Delhi resident for allegedly raping a 19-year-old college student during a house party in Sector 33. The accused, identified as Divyam, was produced in a city court and sent to judicial custody on Monday, according to officials.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The victim, a Delhi University student originally from West Bengal, attended a friend's birthday party at a flat in Gurugram on Saturday. Alcohol was being consumed at the gathering. Divyam had joined the party through the victim's friend. Late at night, while under the influence of alcohol, he allegedly began molesting the woman. He then took her to a secluded area of the apartment and sexually assaulted her, exploiting her intoxicated state.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
The victim resisted the attack and raised an alarm, alerting her friend. The accused fled the spot immediately. The next day, she approached the police, leading to the registration of a rape case under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sadar Police Station. A medical examination was conducted, and her statement was recorded before a judicial magistrate.
A senior police officer stated, "The accused, who lives in Rohini, Delhi, has been arrested. He came to the party at a friend's invitation. Preliminary investigation indicates he committed the crime under the influence of alcohol. He is now in judicial custody, and further probe is ongoing."
