Haryana GRP Makes Major Drug Bust at Chandigarh Railway Station

In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Haryana has apprehended two suspects and confiscated 15 kilograms of charas, with an estimated international market value of approximately Rs 30 lakh. The operation took place at the Chandigarh railway station, marking a crucial victory in the state's ongoing battle against illegal drug trade.

DGP Lauds Police Efforts Under 'Zero Tolerance' Policy

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Singhal commended the GRP team for their diligent work, emphasizing that the Haryana Police is rigorously enforcing a "Zero Tolerance" policy against drug trafficking. He highlighted that stringent measures are being implemented to target individuals attempting to smuggle illicit substances through railway networks. Furthermore, DGP Singhal noted that efforts are being amplified to enhance inter-state coordination, aiming to dismantle drug trafficking networks more effectively across regions.

Details of the Arrest and Seizure

Superintendent of Police (SP) for GRP, Nitika Gehlot, provided insights into the operation. During a special checking drive conducted at Chandigarh railway station as part of heightened security and vigilance protocols, a team led by SHO Inspector Urmila Devi intercepted two young men on suspicion. Upon conducting a thorough search, authorities recovered 31 packets of charas from their trolley bags, with the total weight amounting to around 15 kg.

The accused have been identified as Rahul, aged 24, a resident of Chaugaon village in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, and Ramzan, also 24, from Rahadar village in the same district. Given that the seized contraband qualifies as a "commercial quantity" under the law, a formal case has been registered against both individuals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the GRP Chandigarh police station.

This arrest underscores the Haryana Police's commitment to curbing drug-related crimes and safeguarding public safety through proactive enforcement and collaborative strategies.
