Haryana Police Launches 'Shagun Yojana' Wedding Assistance Scheme
In a significant welfare initiative, Haryana Police Director General Ajay Singhal announced on Saturday the implementation of a "Shagun Yojana" that will provide substantial financial support for the marriages of police personnel's daughters. The scheme will offer ₹2.5 lakh from the Haryana Police Welfare Fund, with future plans to enhance this assistance to ₹5 lakh.
Welfare Commitment for Police Families
While chairing a meeting of B-level officers at the ERSS headquarters in Chandigarh, DGP Singhal emphasized that throughout his service career, the welfare of police personnel and their families has remained his highest priority. He affirmed his continued commitment to this cause, stating that at the police headquarters level, welfare initiatives are not merely conceptual but are backed by concrete planning and effective implementation strategies.
"The Chief Minister has clearly directed that the police force working under challenging circumstances should be provided every possible facility to keep their morale high," Singhal informed the gathering.
Personal Engagement with Police Families
Demonstrating his personal commitment, Singhal, accompanied by his wife, recently visited Rohtak district to interact directly with police families. He expressed his intention to visit all police lines across Haryana in the future to better understand and address the needs of police personnel and their loved ones.
The DGP highlighted that Haryana Police has systematically arranged various allowances and facilities for its personnel to ensure they can discharge their duties without unnecessary concerns about family welfare matters.
Modern Educational Facilities Expansion
Beyond the wedding assistance scheme, Haryana Police has made substantial investments in education for police families. The force has established 22 DAV Police Public Schools specifically for children of police personnel, where students receive concessions and children of deceased personnel receive completely free education.
Approximately 1,200 students benefit daily from these specialized educational institutions. Discussions during the meeting also focused on expanding e-libraries and smart classroom facilities within police lines, with particular emphasis on technical aspects to ensure modern, technology-based education for children of police families.
Tribute to Fallen Personnel
The gathering observed a solemn 2-minute silence to pay tribute to two police personnel martyred in the past month: Inspector Jagdish Prasad and PSI Ravi. This tribute underscored the dangerous nature of police work in Haryana and the importance of comprehensive welfare measures for those serving in challenging circumstances.
The announcement of the Shagun Yojana represents a significant step in recognizing the sacrifices made by police families and providing tangible support during important life events like weddings.
